Three out of four components work on a touch screen. Climate control is the one that does not work. It is set in default mode. I cannot turn on heat or defrost windows in the winter time, neither can I turn on the AC and fan at any time. Call function indicators on the touch screen are off for the climate controller, but all other components work on the touch screen such as entertainment, navigation, and phone. The control Dash below the touch screen used to light up and I could control the rear defrost, stereo, volume, CD player, but it no longer lights up except for when the car first starts and then the light goes out after a couple seconds. The driver side control panel for the windows only works for the driver side. I cannot roll down the windows for the passenger side, however, the passenger can operate the front passenger window, but the rear passenger window doesn't work for the passenger. From the driver side control panel on the door I can fold the driver side mirrors in but I cannot fold the passenger side mirror in. Also the turning signal light on the side mirror only works on the driver side and not the passenger side mirror. Also the blind spot indicator light is lit up on the dash. I had a aftermarket stereo system put in and I found a wire leading to the BCM and was wrapped around one of the fuses. The fuse was a 7 amp, however the manufacturers book in the glove box called for a 5 amp and stress that any higher of an amp could cause a short circuit. I found this 2 years ago which was 2 years after the stereo installation. The stereo system installation company denies doing any wrong and is now out of business. I recently took the car to a Ford dealership and they charged me $668 just to do a diagnostics test and take it apart to replace the fcim behind the touch screen. However, They concluded that I didn't need the new part because it still didn't fix the problem. I retrieved my car and it is now at a Lincoln dealership. The service rep brags about their technicians experience and expertise over the past 25 years with the dealership and recommended I talk to him. The technician told me that he does not think that it is the BCM and that he wants to do an extensive troubleshooting check to search all the wires Because he believes some wires are burned out or wrong because of the many different diagnostic codes that are showing but the components are functioning fine with a cold stating that they're not. I have done research with YouTube videos and have concluded that this sounds like the BCM, especially since while driving the car I had one time observed a smell like wires burning while I was driving the car. The malfunctions had already been taking place prior to the smell. I have decided to go and retrieve my car from the Lincoln dealership tomorrow and refuse to allow them to talk me into letting them do their own troubleshooting and skip the BCM. I went in specifically to have the BCM replaced but I allowed them to talk to me out of it. What would you say is going on with my vehicle? I mainly just want to be able to control my heat and defrost because it's winter time and I can't defrost the ice off of my windows from the inside.

Sincerely,
Joseph H.

Hello Joseph,

I need to ask some questions, did all of the problems tart at once or did they cascade over time? Next I would do a CAN scan yourself to see which codes are present, you might be able to rent the scanner from AutoZone or have them scan the car for you. Here is a video of what needs to be done.

CAN SCAN - https://youtu.be/u-4syLc-ifQ

I know the touch screens go out all the time and I have had good luck with used parts from ebay. FYI. Just remove the panel and the FCIM unscrews from the backside. Check out the images (below). Please let us know what happens. Ken

Hi, Ken. Thank you for your response. To answer your first question. Every one of the problems all began at the exact same time. I'll take the car to get codes from AutoZone. To me all the symptoms seems to be pointing to the BCM. A dealership already check the touchscreen, the FCIM is fine.

Yep if all of this happened at once it is not the FCIM. With the systems on I would use this guide and check the fuses on the BCM first.

Here are some of the fuses that run the systems. The BCM is located on the driver side under the dash. The CAN scan will tell us for sure. Check out the images (below). Let us know how it goes
