Dashboard lights faded, blinked on & off for awhile. Then one night, the did not come on at all.

Hi:
Either you have a ground problem, a loose connection under the dash, or a BCM issue. The easiest thing to check is the loose connection. Make sure the plugs going to the dash lights are tight and properly connected.
