What does "nothing doing" mean? Does the starter crank the engine? If it does, you must check for spark AND if the fuel pump is running. There's a quick way to measure if both circuits are being powered up but it varies depending which engine you have. You didn't specify which one you have, so another place to measure is on the two small wires on the back of the alternator. One of them should have full battery voltage for up to two seconds when you turn the ignition switch to "Run", then again during engine cranking. If the voltage is missing only during cranking, you must specify your engine size. They have different troubleshooting steps.
