Electrical problem
1997 Chrysler Cirrus V6 Two Wheel Drive Automatic 120000 miles

Hey, I have a a confusing problem with my 1997 v6 chrysler cirrus. Everything worked fine one day. Then I get in my car and try to start it. There's no crank, no clicking sound, nothing. All my electrical stuff works (lights burn bright and everything) Then I try my radio and that doesn't work at all. One thing I should add is that my brakes were bad. I was broke and couldn't fix em so I was constantly putting the car in neutral to coast to a stop. I was doing that for about two weeks before this happened.

On most cars you have a neutral switch located on the lower left hand side of the transaxle near the oil pan. The switch inhibits the starter engagement if car is in neutral and not in park. Seems you have broken this switch. To check it you have to use a ohm meter and check for continuity between the center teminal of the switch and the switch body. Continuity should only be present with the gearshift lever in park or neutral. That means the meter should read zero. If does not then replace it. To access the switch you have to remove the splash pan covering the transaxel. You also have to jack up the car and put it on jack stands so it does not fall on you
