Car was running great then after driving my car home alittle while later when I went to start it all that would come on is the dash lights and the security light would blink unlike the other lights that would just come on there is nothing no click no nothing. We have replaced the clutch switch, ignition switch bought a new key had the starter checked charged the battery I was told that it could be the anti theft system if so how do I reset it? Can you please help me before my husband trades my car for a ten speed bike.

Hey michelle,
The security light flashing means either a fault in the system or is in theft mode. Was the ign switch and key a "matched set"? That is crucial! If it was then there may also be an issue with the security module. If you or your hubby need the dianostic test or wiring diagram, let me know and will drop you it in a email.

Hey michelle,
Sorry, meant to say the ignition lock cylinder and key have to be a matched set as they send the electrical signal to the anti-theft module/pcm to enable starting. There has been an issue with the lock cylinder wiring breaking after age and causing that condition.

Michelle,
2 choices. 1. Take the vehicle to a trusted shop and get an accurate diagnosis and fix. 2. You can do the lock cylinder. To do this yourself, 1st I'll send along the repair procedure. 2nd, contact your local GM dealer, explain to them that you need a new lock cylinder and key ( you may need to give them the vin #), they may also need to examine/test your key for the proper resistance value(yes! There is a tiny resistor in your key) and get the proper parts. The replacement of the cylinder isn't too hard a job if you follow the procedure! Check your email and let me know if you need any assistance!

Michelle,
Sounds like the parts person is a bit off base. Unless its an aftermarket security system, then his bypass is out the window! Simplified. The key and cylinder send a signal to the pcm, if the signal is the correct one programmed into the pcm then it will allow the car to start, if not. Then no go! I recommend you return the part and get one from the dealer with the correct setup!
