1999 Silverado 4X4 Z71 running "choppy"

My truck ( 1999 Chevy Silverado 2500 series Z71 4x4 V8 engine) is running choppy all of a sudden and the check engine light is on. It was fine went I went out and when I went to start it up to go back home, it was just not running right and the check engine light came on. Any ideas?

First things first if your check engine light is on then you should get the error codes read off the computer, alot of parts shops like kragen/checker and autozone have ODB II computer code readers that they'll hook up for free. The codes might tell you what your problem is right away or what part needs to be replaced. Post back with the error codes when you get them if you still need assistance.

Thank you for the heads up javoltech. Went to Autozone and it turns out to be a bad coil.
