I have a Barn Find 1977 Chevy Silverado. Recently did the valve cover gaskets, but still getting an oil leak. Oil pan is next on the list. I am told the rear main is in 2 pieces, and is done with the pan gasket. Is it as big a pain as I am led to believe? I have done the pan on an 84 CJ-7 258 6 cyl.

The rear main is in two pieces and you will have to jack the engine up and turn the crank a certain way to get the pan off. Instead of using the gasket, just use teh rubber ons at the end then use silicone RTV for the gasket, making sure to put some on the edges of the rubber gaskets. Also for the valve covers there are spreader clamps that you can get to put on to spread the load on the valve covers.
