1969 Chevy Truck

I have a 1969 Chevy C10 truck. Should there be a big red wire going to the Ing. Switch? I have a red wire loose under the dash. It is taped off so it wont short out. I drove it 400 miles, so I know it does run. It had points in the truck when it was new. The truck now has an HEI distributor in it. Did the red wire originally go from the Ing. Switch to the resister then to the points?
Thanks, Grady

Do you have an amp gauge? And does it work?

I will try to see where the red wire goes. I installed Vintage Air in the truck, so there is a lot of stuff in the way.
