I had a loud squealing upon start up. It would persist while driving. I took the altenator off, and replaced it. The sqealing was immediately gone on start up. It squealed for about 2 minutes while driving and then was completly gone for about 2 days. Now it has returned. It squeals when you speed up and gets quieter as you slow down. My question is do I need to retighted the belts after driving it for a few days, or do I have another problem? Thank you

Hi buttsmt,

Thank you for the donation.

Most likely the belt tension was not to specification. V-ribbed belts requires retightening after some running.

Ok, it is the water pump. The bearing is shot, and now I'm leaking. I will assume for now that is the source of the squeal. Do you have any instructions for replacing the water pump on an 03 tahoe v8 5.9 Flex fuel 4wd? Thank you

It was the water pump. I replaced it, and no more sqealing. Thanks for the input.
