I have a 98 chevy tahoe with a 350 vortec engine. It had been throughing a trouble code that the tps sensor had low voltage and the cat converters were a little stopped up. I was told that if it wasn't surging dont worry about the tps sensor. It needed a tune up so I bought a new coil, wires, plugs, cap and rotor and replaced everything. I went to start it up after changing them and it started surging. So I replaced the tps and it got worse. So I took it back and got another one and it did the same thing. So I put the factory back on and it still surged but not as bad. I drove it for about a week like that and started it one evening and it acted like it was going to die when I gave it gas. So I replaced the fuel filter and it didnt help it none. It wouldnt through any codes so I started testing and backprobing all the sensors. I cant find any of them to be bad. I tried changing the coil and cap and rotor it didnt do anything. Now 4 days after working on it it wont start unless you pour a little gas into the throttle body. And if u get it started it will sit and idol for ever. But if you give it any gas it will die. I started it yesterday just to try and move it a couple of feet into my garage and it wont go into gear. It just makes a grinding noies when u put it but into park. I figure something is not telling my injectors to prime the engine for initial start up and something is not telling my trans selonoid to shift my trans. But what. Is it my pcm or something else. Ive tried everything I can think of and any body else can think of. The only code its throughing now is thst the ic circut has high votage. I erased the code and tried both coils it throgh the code on both of them. Please help!

Hello,

The engine can surge due to a few different reasons.
It could be for a vacuum leak, faulty mass air flow sensor, improper fuel pressure.

Take a look at this helpful guide:

https://www.2carpros.com/articles/engine-surges

Keep in mind that the vacuum leak can many times be from the intake manifold and not just a simple hose. You check for vacuum leak on the manifold by spraying carb cleaner to the base, with the engine at idle. If there is a leak the engine will react to the cleaner and will idle higher till it burns off the chemical.

Please let me know what you find or if there are any questions.
Thank you.
