Loseing coolant

I have a 1998 chey silverado 5.7 with 125000 miles on it I went to the store on the way back a seen smoke I was 1 block from my home the temp was fine when I tured in the drive the temp shot up it was over heated I let it cool and check the radiator and the overflow they where empty and there was coolant spaed under the truck I put more coolant in the radiator and started the truck and it was leaking from above the transmission driverside is this a hose or freeze plug or what?

With it loosing coolant towards the transmission it sound like a bad hose going into the heater core. Check the hoses and replace if bad.
