IDLE

I have a 2000 Silverado with 86000 miles. It is a 4x4, 5.3 engine.
When I first start it in the morning it idles normal, about 500 but after driving a few it idles anywhere from 1000 to 1500. I can turn off the engine and it once again will idle fine until I drive it a few miles. Any suggestions?

Try checking the throttle position sensor and clean out the idle air control valve, also the throttle body/plate and a binding throttle cable.

I almost forgot about the coolant temperature sensor-test its resistances hot and cold-could be stuck in the open loop mode and the computer is dumping fuel thinking the engine is still cold.
