Front wheel removal

I have an '03 Silverado 1500-HD 4WD auto w/ 51k miles. Trying to do some routine maintenance, but can't get the front wheel off. After removing the lug nuts, the wheel doesn't budge. Do I need a puller or something to get the thing off? Basic repair manuals don't say anything more than "remove wheel". What am I missing?

This happens to me on my 4wd all the time, mostly the rears that have the drums. Take off all the lugs and spray heavily with wd-40 around studs and center hub, let soak for a few, then when tire in the air, carefully use a sledge and TAP on the back side of the wheel, DO NOT hit TOO hard, you may throw out of balance and/or dent the wheel, spin tire at same time of tapping, it should break loose.
