I keep getting a check engine light. I had a mechanic run the codes and he got two both having to do with the fuel system. I replaced the gas cap but still have the light. The engine runs fine and the light goes off when it is bitter cold outside but then comes back on. Is this problem common to the Chevy? What are the possible problems. Is it something to do with the emission controls?

What were the codes? Were they EVAP codes or lean/rich?

Really need to know the exact code number to know how to advise you. The good news is, EVAP problems won't make it run bad or cause any long term problems if it persists.
