The other day the truck started but then died. Tried again to crank but there was absolutely nothing. I jumped it & it started immediately and ran but it seemed like it wanted to die out when I stopped at lights, etc so I had to keep giving it gas. Next morning it was dead again so I left it alone. The next day in the afternoon I started it without a jump and it idled ok but I noticed that my temp gauge did not move, it was at zero. I thought at first this was an alternator problem but am now thinking it is the water pump. Haven't noticed water leaking or anything like that but will check that out. Does the water pump probably need to be replaced?

Hi pschooley and TY for the donation

The water pump has nothing to do with your problem -If battery and alternator checks out and connections are in order-Try cleaning out the idle air control valve and test the TPS/MAP sensors to include the EGR valve

Thanks for the input. Truck started just fine tonight and the temp gauge moved up to about 3/8 of the way after it idled for about 10-15 min. How do I locate the idle air control valve? How do I go about testing the tps/map sensors? How do I get to the egr valve to clean that out?

How's the battery and alternator are they good?

This one can be a nightmare to fix

Start with the IACV its located within the throttle body assy-it looks similar to the pic below-clean out the passages and make sure the pintle valve moves in and out

You need a repair manual in order to test the rest to include the IACV
