This has happened twice in the past 3 months. I start my truck and it seems like it's not getting gas and about to die at any second. I drive for a few mins and this doesn't seem to help. I then leave it in park and give it gas. Seems to help and drives normal again. This time it was a little different the check engine light came on. Any suggestions?

Welcome to the forum, have the troublecodes checked. Around here some of the national brand autostores will check codes for free. Use a gage and check fuel pressure. With idle issues, I take the throttle-body off and clean it.

After doing research I'm thinking it maybe the EGR valve. It is more of a rough idle instead of low idle. Once I give it gas maybe it blows whatever is holding the valve open gets flushed out. Would that make sense?

Yes, the egr valve could cause a problem.
