2001 Chevy Silverado V8 Four Wheel Drive Automatic

What is the easiest way to get to the Ambient light sensor. It is of course on top of the dash, and was broken by someone throwing a textbook on the dashboard. The part is less than $18.00 and I would like to replace it myself if possible.

The only way is from under the dash. That is where it is attached and needs to be removed from there.

Thanks. I suspect that means taking the dashboard apart. Never done it before. What is the level of difficulty. I am new to the do it yourself, but cant afford not to anymore.
