1996 Chevy Silverado EGR valve

I have a 96' Chevy Silverado Z71 with 130,000+ and have owned it since new to date I have hade 5 EGR valves replaced and more recently a screen has been added. It has been approx. 6 months since the last one was replaced and my truck is surging at low speeds and the service engine light is back on. When I had it diagnosised they said it was the EGR code. Any ideas on what to try next?

Open it up -could be the screen is carboned up again.

Also get the exhaust system checked for backpressure.
