Hello,

The fuel level sending unit consists of a float and a resistor panel. It registers different value as the fuel level goes up or down and that shows on the dash. Malfunctioning sending level sending unit can show incorrect level.

It can be replaced by itself. However, in order to do so the fuel tank needs to be removed and it will take about the same time to replace just the unit or the pump assembly.

It is unto you if you want to replace the whole unit or just the level sender. The level sender price is around $35.00 to $60.00 depending on the brand.

As for the labor it will depend on the shop rate.
