I recently purchased a 1991 Chevrolet Silverado Z71. I've had it tuned up and have fixed all the leaks. I have had trouble with rough idling and lately the "Check Engine Soon" light comes on when driving at expressway speeds. I will stop the vehicle at the side of the road and let it sit for a few minutes. When I start it again the light is off. This is happening everyday now on the way to and from school. I have put some additives in the gas tank to get rid of a moisture problem in the gas tank. I was wondering if the fuel filter might be getting plugged up. Also there were some cracks in the crossover pipe which I have repaired.

What you need to do is this. When the check engine light is on, you need to stop at a parts store and have them scan the computer. Don't shut the engine until they scan it. You need the light to be on.

It shouldn't hurt anything unless it is overheating or you hear bad knocking coming from the engine. How far is a parts store?
