My 1989 chevy did the same thing. There are some bolts inside the colomn that didn't get tourqued down tight enough when they were built. If you drive it for to long without repairing it the wheel can come off. You must have a special tool to tighten these bolts. You will just need to find a mechanic wh has this tool and have them repair it. That is probably the easiest thing to do.
