1983 Chevy S10 v-6 2.8 either 138,000 or 238,000. Picked up an 83 Chevy S10 at a police auction, drove it home and started to clean it up. Sprayed carb cleaner around and in carb. Now won't start. Took out plugs and squirted oil into chambers and shot some starter fluid over the carb. Tries to turn over but won't crank. Any suggestions?

Replaced the coil wire, cranked right up.

same thing, died at a traffic light, wouldn't start, just kept trying to turn over. I did replace the fuel filter and flushed the radiator. Caught a ride with a cop to work. After work it cranked right up. Could it be the coil?

Check around by the coil and clean off all the wires with a dry towel. Does it do anything when you use starter fluid? With you just getting the s 10 I would change the fuel filter.
