In my 2000 chevy s10 xtreme something is killing my battery and my voltage meter is constantly jumping in between low and in the middle(perfect). My lights also dem down then jump back up. I have replaced the altenator and have had it re-tested. It tested perfect. Brand new battery that has also tested perfect on the load tester. Whatever it is, it kills the battery in a couple of days or so. I have recharged the battery and it has killed it again. My main concern is why my meter is constantly jumping. Somebody told me it might be the voltage regulator. I desperately need advice and all opions will be gladly accepted. Does anyone know what this might be?

Hi there, start with getting the alternator charge rate check, this when done under load will also test the voltage regulator under load as well, start here.

Ok thanks I will try this but does it sound like it could be the voltage regulator or something else to you?

Hi there,

The fact that the lights go bright and then dim tend to suggest a faulty reg, but this I don't think is the root cause of the battery failure, what I feel that you need to get done is a current draw test, this is where an Amp meter is placed between battery pos and the cable, with keys out and doors closed check the current draw, if above about.25Amps, start pulling fuses to locate any circuit that is pulling extra current.
