1999 Chevy S-10 4 cyl Two Wheel Drive Automatic

i TOOK MY VEHICLE TO THE MECHANIC AN HE SAID IT IS A LEAKY VALVE. THE SERVICE ENGINE LIGHT IS ON ALL THE TIME. AND IT HAS NO GET UP AND GO. IT SOUNDS LIKE IT IS GOING TO DIE OUT. THE ENGINE SOUNDS SHAKY. I HAVE LET IT SIT CAUSE I DO NOT KNOW WHAT TO DO.I WANT TO KNOW WHAT IS A PRICE I SHOULD BE EXPECTING TO FIX IT. SOMEONE TOLD ME THAT INSTEAD OF FIXING THE VALVE TO JUST GET A NEW REBUILT ENGINE. WHAT DO I DO WHEN I DO NOT HAVE THAT MUCH MONEY AND I DO NOT KNOW ANYTHING ABOUT ENGINES AND WHO TO TRUST AS FAR AS THE ACTUAL WORK IT IS REALLY NEEDING?NEED HELP BIG TIME. ASAP.

If you do a compression test that will tell you if you have a bad valve or not. You also need to see what the code is as it may be something simple. It woul dbe about $1500 to fix the valve if that 's it. You could always take it to another mechanic and have him read the code and give his diagnosis.
