Hey I need some help! I have a 98 S-10. I recently put a used engine in it, not rebuilt, but it was guaranteed to work. I put the motor in and it runs great no sounds or anything it seems to be working fine. But I noticed that some white smoke was coming from the tailpipe. Its not thick more like steam. I guess it could be a head gasket, but wanted your opinion. Also when I cut the heater on the smoke comes thru the vents. I had the same problem with the heater with the old motor about two weeks before it died. Could I just replace the head gasket and it be fixed? Any Suggestions?

I wouldn't panic just yet. Not knowing how much running time you have on the motor, during a lot of engine swaps, as you swing the old motor out, the header pipe get a good gulp of coolant. It can take a while to burn this out. The steam coming up the defroster is probably from a bad heater core being you had this symtom before the swap. Hope this helps.
