can the ignition module cause a vehicle to misfire?

Hello,

Yes, the ignition control module can cause an engine to misfire.
Typically a faulty ignition control module will cause a random misfire or it can prevent sparks all together.
The ignition control module is located under the ignition coil packs (see diagram).

This module can be tested to see if it is performing properly. Simply take of the module and take it to your local auto parts store, most of them will have a special tester to test these modules.
