1993 Chevy S-10 5th gear

I have a 5-speed manual transmission. I can shift it into 5th gear, but nothing happens when I do. It is just like being in neutral.

What should I look for?

Broken parts inside the trans. If you drain the fluid, there will most likely be some material in it. Sounds like the gear has broken free of the shaft
