Transmission problem
1982 Chevy S-10 6 cyl Two Wheel Drive Automatic

I'm sure the transmission in my '82 S10 is on its last leg, but here's my immediate problem: The tranny seems to work fine before the truck warms up. As soon as it gets to normal operating temp, a clunking noise starts coming from under the floorboard. The noise is intermittent and not real loud at first, but as I continue to drive, the noise gets louder and more regular. Eventually, the clunking seems to start affecting the engine itself, and the truck acts like it wants to stall in conjunction with the clunking. The noise goes away in park and neutral, only happens in drive and reverse. Any ideas?

See if your torque converter bolts are loose.

Would the loose torque converter bolts only make noise when the transmission is at operating temperature? Because the noise doesn't start til the truck warms up.

Normally the torque converter bolts make noise when in gear and not park or nuetral. You may not hear them when it's cold But it'a s start to check someplace. Also check your u'joints on the driveshaft. If you see rust around theujoint seal then they shold be replaced.
