Engine Performance problem
1995 Other Chevrolet Models 6 cyl Two Wheel Drive Automatic

Truck has been and was running fine yesterday, my husband parked it turned it off, went inside for 30- 45 min. Came out tried to start truck and it would turn over but wouldn't fire. Checked everything to check under hood to make sure he was getting fire, then he took off lines going to carburetor and told me to crack it and there wasn't any gas coming out, so then he took line off fuel filter and told me to crank it and no gas came out, so then he took the filter off and told me to crank it and gas did come out. When he tried to blow in the filter, air would hardly go through. So we went and got a new filter put it on and started truck. Had to start it a couple of times and as he was sitting there letting it warm up the motor kept revving up by its self and then would idle down to where it almost died and actually did a couple of times, then it started idling normal so we took off for home and not even 4 -5 mile down the road it started losing power and eventually died and wouldn't start again. It would crank but won't fire. Could you please tell me what is going on and why not even acting funny one minute it wouldn't start the next? Could it be the fuel pump and if so why would have changing the filter acted like that was the problem? Please get back to me as soon as possible! Desperate

Sometimes when the fuel filter is clogged it burns out the fuel pump due to it not getting any cooling from the return line. But you may have picked up a load of bad fuel as well. Remove te line from the fuel filter and see if yu get fuel out. If you do, pump the fuel into an empty jar. Glass or plalstic that you can see through. Let it sit for about an hour and see if there is crap in the bottom, there should be a bunch. If there is you'll have to drain your fuel system. Or there as crap in the line and it went into the injection system. Another thing you can do is get soe choke cleaner and clean the trottle body with it with the engine off. It may make your truck hard to start after doing this. Also some of these earlier models had a harness problem and when you get a new delco /ac fuel pump it will come with the new harness to splice in to the old one.
