I have a 1978 c 10 chevy pickup I'm haveing alot of blue smoke coming from the tail pipe I thought it was burning oil but I'm not sure it smells like your riding behind a bus it doesn't smell like oil. But if it is will replaceing the valve seals cure this problem.

What color? Black blue or white? Black= too rich fuel mixture, or choke partially closed, blue= burning oil, white= may be burning antifreeze! Head gasket?
If it's blue, and it needs valve guide seals, problem will be more pronouched on take off.

The blue smoke is an indication of oil being burn in the combustion chamber. Probably due for an engine overhaul.

Do an engine compression/leadown test to find out where you stand at for what is really need to be rebuild.
