Welcome to the forum, thanks for the donation. Do you think the problem might be the theft system? When it refuses to crank, is the theft/security lite flashing?

The site will gladly refund your donation, if we can't help you. All you have to do is ask.

What is litre size of your engine? The 3.1 showed a theft system? Anyway, the purple wire at the starter solenoid should be hot with the key in the crank position. You'll have to test when it refuses to crank. Yeah, intermittent problems are a pain. When the problem occurs can you tell if there is a load on the starter circuit? Watch the lites, if they go out or dim, there is a load on the circuit. If not, open circuit somewhere. I guess you tried cranking in neutral?

If the problem was related to neutral switch, sometimes when it won't crank in park, it might crank in neutral?
