Where is the sending unit for the temperature gauge located 3100 v6 or is there one? I replaced the sending unit for the coolant fans.

Hello,

The coolant temperature sensor is located on the upper part of the engine, next to the ignition coils (see diagram).

The Engine Coolant Temperature (ECT) sensor is a thermistor (a resistor which changes value based on temperature) mounted in the engine coolant stream.
The ECT sends signal to the PCM and the PCM translates that data, and displays on the gauge.

I have attached diagrams for your reference.

Thank you.
