2000 Chevy Malibu Shutting off

I recently purchases a 2000 malibu. Everything pointed to a great car. Unexpectedly whild driving the car just shuts off. No power stearing, no rpms no engine idle at all. Temperatutre guage shows it at 180. Checked fluids and they are all full. After a short period of time the car will start. I cannot seem to figure out what triggers the malfunction. Mechanic friend of mine said it sounded like possibly fule filter is getting clogged, Seing if you could help. Thanks 2carpros.

Few steps need to be taken to pin point the problem
1st is to be scanned for codes
2nd check car for tune-up
3rd when car stalls does security light comes on and blink
