engine light will not go off but car runs fine. Had a new catalyic converter and light is still on

My first question would be, why did you replace the cat. Convertor? Did you have an engine code for it. If you do have and know the codes, could you give them to me and I'd be glad to help you out.

I took it to a shop and they told me I needed one. But after that the light is still on. I took it back and now they said that was not the problem but they did not check anything else out.

Well, that light can come on for about 125 reasons on your Chevy. If it's running well then that's a good sign. But if you can get it to somewhere that can retrieve the codes out of the computer. I will be glad to help you. With out that info, I would only be guessing. Get back to me when you can.
