Engine Performance problem
1993 Chevy Lumina 6 cyl Front Wheel Drive Automatic

The transmission is trying to act up and the car has to be warmed up for at least 10 minutes before it will go into gear. This is not the problem that I am interested in though. Once the car is cranked it idles very roughly. When put into gear and the gas is pressed it seems fine. When I stop it stops really hard and then begins to idle roughly again. While I am stopped and it is idling it acts like it bogs down and is going to shut off which it doesn't but it feels like it is going to. Then when I let off the brake the car seems to pull itself. The check engine light only comes on when I am idling in drive not in park. The check engine light goes off right after I press the gas and start driving again. Please help me, what could be the cause of this problem?

Hi, how long since a tune-up? Use a gage and check fuel pressure. Check for trouble codes. You should be able to get mil codes. Place a jumper wire between A & B terminals of datalink connector. Turn the key just till the dash lites come on, no further. The mil starts flashing, you count the flashes to get the codes. Your looking for two digit codes. An example, code 12, would be 1 flash, a slight pause, then two quick flashes. The code may repeat three times before moving to the next code.
