1991 Chevy Lumina 6 cyl Automatic

I have a '91 chevy lumina 3.1 6 cylinder and it worked fine until 2 weeks ago when I was told by a mechanic that I had a cracked head gasket and I needed to replace it along with the transmission fluid because the dipstick showed I had way too much tranny fluid in my car. Ever since then, my car has been having trouble and now it wont even go above 20 mph. What seems to be the problem?
