I had a tie-rod end break this morning on a 1996 caravan, left front wheel lower back, looking at it, it looks like I could loosen nut and turn tie-rod end off and replace right where it sits in a parking lot at a gas station, would I be correct to think this part simply will tread off the rod and I could tread a new one back in place, I have to say I feel a little stupid asking this question, but I have a double snowmobile trailer with sleds on it attached to the van and would like to fix where it sits if possible.

Is it the outer end neerest the tire/wheel ass. Then, did it break at the ball joint or thru the all thread. Either way loosen the jam nut on the all thread. Some are left hand thread, lefty tighty righty loosy. Then remove the ball joint nut 90% then smack that nut with a hammer and get it ti pop out of its tapered eye socket. On replacement in the parking lot get the good side sraight with the back wheel(use a string to check that), then string check the new side adjust the all thread length till the ball joint goes straight into the eye. Tighten things down. And that should get you thru the day. But make sure to have it alingned(sp) asap. Also if one broke the other probily isn't in good shape either. Have it replaced where you get your allignment. Good luck
