2000 Chevy Impala New Computer?

My car starts but doesn't idle. Unless you have foot on gas, it shuts off. Garage at first thought it had to do with air system; then called back and said I need a new computer. Anyone else have this problem? How much is a new computer?

I would get a second opinion, idle is controlled by the IAC (idle air control) valve.

It may need to be replaced or cleaned. While PCM is a possibility (remote) it sounds more like a way to get extra money from you.

New or remanufactured PCM can run anywhere from $500-1500.
