A couple months after an alignment, I now have a loose feeling steering and a dull clunking noise that is felt in the steering wheel at slow speeds while turning, accelerating from a stop, or going over small bumps. It feels like something is a little loose in the suspension or steering column. Before the alignment the steering was a little stiff, but I liked it that way. It feels like I'm driving an old pick-up with 200k miles on it. Any idea as to what happened, and is it an easy fix a shade tree mechanic can remedy?

1995?
Maybe 2005

Check and suspect the inner tie rod end boot
If unsure the noise is coming from the inner tie rod boot(s), have an assistant rotate the steering wheel from lock to lock with the engine off. Place your fingertips on the inner tie rod boot. If the boot is contacting the inner tie rod, that contact will be transmitted to your fingertips.
