My pick-up sounds like it is trying to stall or trying to turn off. I was driving on the freeway as I began to brake my engine shut down, I lost engine power to my truck. I had to put the truck in neural and restart the truck again. I was able to start the truck with no problems every time when I am about to brake my truck wants to shut off. I changed the fuel filter and the spark plugs and the air filters. What is the solution to get rid of the stalling?

Have the torque converter clutch solenoid checked out.

I have a z71 with a 3.5l. It stopped running while I was driving. It will restart but will only stay running if I keep foot on the gas. I had a obdII scan done and showing trouble codes for the crankshaft and camshaft position sensors. Could that be the problem? Has a slight misfire while running when I keep my foot on gas.

The crankshaft position can cause the truck to shut off. Can you get me the exact code numbers? That would really help me help you. Also, do you have a multi-meter to do some testing?

Automatic 105,000 miles.

Hey,

I have a 2005 Chevrolet Colorado. It is the 3.5 I5. When I am in drive foot on brake and idling the truck will run a little rough but when I start to turn the wheel the truck stalls out.

If I am doing a slow turn say into a parking space the truck also stalls out. What should a look into?

Run an engine scan first to make sure there are no codes set. Then clean the throttle plate on both sides with choke cleaner as they tend to gum up with oil and will cause idle problems.

The P0013 and P0014 are cam sensor solenoid circuit etc, and the P0016 and P0017 is crank shaft position sensor correlation to cam shaft position. I looked at the trouble tree for the P0013 cam position solenoid circuit and the first thing it has you do is use a tech2 scan tool to command the cam sensor to advance 90 degrees to see if the ECM can do that. It is going to take a very expensive advanced scan tool to trouble shoot and fix this. Your best bet would be to just bite the bullet and and bring it in for repair.

Yeah, I have a Chevrolet Colorado 2005 with the Vortex engine. I had the same problem my dad ended up replacing stuff for me like the coil pack which may have been part of low power issue. Also, the solenoid sensor next to the power steering fluid area. After that the engine was better, but now I am having it stall out once in a while. However, I am sure that may be because of a battery issue or possibly the sensor needing to be adjusted to the time chain. I was told to do that by a mechanic. We have not done so yet, but when I do I will try to keep you updated but for now get the solenoid time sensor replaced. You will find it to work out those issues you have stated. :) Hope it works out for you.

Also, most solenoid sensors are around $65.00 which is cheep. I do not know how much getting it adjusted to the timing belt will cost though. As I stated previously I will have to do that my self.

Hello,

These engine had problems with the timing chain which are what these codes are here for. Can you make a video of the engine running so I can confirm by listening to it? You can use your phone and upload it in your response. Cheers, Ken

Engine Mechanical problem
2005 Chevy Colorado Four Wheel Drive Automatic 34000 miles

i have the 5 cylinder engine. Sometimes when I start my truck and take off, a short distance up the road it starts to chug and the rpms drop below 500 and sometimes it stalls. It always starts back up and sometimes it does the same thing or it runs fine the rest of my trip. The engine light has come on and off twice. I live in the buffalo NY area so it is cold. My truck has 34000 miles on it.

Have it scanned for codes, most common on these is the throttle body get full of carbon causing them to stall and idle low. Clean the throttle body and see if it fixes it.

On a cold start only the engine barely runs I have to feather the throttle to keep it running. It is very sluggish and runs very bad as I try to get it to idle. White smoke that smells like fuel comes from the tailpipe. There are no trouble codes. Fuel pressure at the time of the problem is 57 lbs. The o2 sensor (upstream) as I throttle it up drops (20-80) when it is dying down as it warms it will rev better and the 02 will go high and bounce like it should, then the engine will hesitate. And the 02 will drop again. Once the engine is warmer 1-2 min it runs good with only a mild tip in hesitation, which the 02 goes low every time with this hesitation. I checked for vac leaks, tryd a maf and a map. The coolant sensor is rite on target at all times. Air intake tube is good and plugs are good. There is no actual misfire in any one cylinder. I installed a new fuel filter. The fuel smelling smoke and low o2 really has me baffled. I need help! I'm stumped. Ty

The white smoke has me a bit concerned. White smoke usually indicates that coolant is getting into the combustion chamber. The usual cause is a bad head gasket. When the engine heats up, the metal expands and may be helping it to run better.

I would recommend that you check engine compression when the engine is cold to see if there are any low cylinders. Also, you mentioned the check engine light is on. Have you scanned the computer for trouble codes?

I will definitely run a compression test and get back to ya, Ty. But a little more info, that white smoke has a very bad fuel smell ( like raw fuel) and my o2 sensor will stay low if I hold the throttle down, as soon as I let up if its starting to idle at this point, my 02 will bounce and engine will run smoother. Also all of my spark plugs are jet black. Ty again, I'll let u no my results in a day.
