i'm putting a hurst shift kit in my '67 chevelle. I need to take out the column shifter. How can I take out the sleeve on the column that holds the stock shift lever and what can I put on the column to replace it.
thanks

The shift lever should come out with the two pins holding it in place. If I remember right push the pins in and then you will be able to turn the shift lever a little then remove it. I don't know if there is anything to cover where the shift lever was.

You need to pull the steering wheel off, remove the signal light switch, and there are I think, three screws holding the sleeve to the column. You will probably have to go to a salvage yard find an old chev like yours with a floor shift and take the sleeve of that car. Or you could get the whole steering column. Good luck with your project.
