Transmission problem
1998 Chevy Cavalier 4 cyl Two Wheel Drive Automatic

Why is my automatic transmission slipping when shifting from 2nd to 3rd gear, when hot? It is worse when cold, it will not shift into 3rd and acts like its in nuetral. It is the 3t40 hydra matic.

Slipping can be caused by many things, usually it is a loss of hydraulic pressure, or blockage.

Other than checking fluid level, you need to get to trans shop. Slipping only gets worse and will eventually cause replacement or rebuild.
