My car is in the shop because yesterday it sputtered once like the brakes were failing, was making a strange noise off and on, then it started acting like it was in neutral. You could push the gas and it would go barely, then when you push the gas it would do nothing you could hold it to the floor with no change. It would rev a little.

There is most likely an engine light on. You should retrieve the DTC and that will lead you in the right direction.

But you said you have already brought the vehicle to the repair facility, so I'm sure they will do a proper diagnosis and tell you what exactly is going on.
