2002 Chevy Camaro Headlights on dash lights off

When I turn my headlights on the dash lights go off. They work when they are off but not when they are on. I have automatic lights that turn on at night if that matters. I have checked all fuses and all are good. Not only checked the dimmer but replaced it and still not working. I was told it might be a ground but if thats the case why do they work with the headlights off but not on. Not sure what else to do.

Do your headlights come on automatically when you start the car"during the day". DRL, or only when it gets dark? Please advise.

I'm a little confused here. I pulled up the headlight diagrams for '02 Camaro, Camaro SS and Camaro Z28. They all show the DLR lighting system which turns the headlights on as soon as you start the car, day or night. There is no system shown that automatically turns the HL's on only at dark. Please advise.

The DRL don't include the headlights just the signals. If you need ill take a few pictures. Just let me know.
