is there a secret to getting the plug wires off the plugs on this car

Nope they really stick on. Try twisting boot back and forth, if you can grip it. They make a tool that helps but if you take an old screwdriver a heat it and put 1/4 inch bend. You can use it to pull along edge of boot to break seal. When you replace put some dielectric silicone on boot. Next time the'll pull off easy.
