I was driving on the road and it just shot off. I replaced the battery and it started back up fine I checked the alternator and all the fuses everything was good when I shut it off and tried starting it again it wouldnt catch. It would crank but it seemed like it didnt have gas.

You will need to verify fuel pressure with a manual gauge. There should be a schrader valve on the fuel rail where you can attach one to be sure you have pressure. Youa re at about theright mileage for a GM pump to go bad, but I would verify it first, those pumps are horrible to change

I checked the gauge and yes the pump is bad. I heard it was in the gas tank and they have to drop the rear axle to get to it. That sounds expensive. Do you know exactly how much and if there is an alternate way to do that.

No alternate way to do it, sorry. Yes the rear diff has to be lowered almost all of theway out.I do suggest you use an A/C Delco pump, a little more expensive, but I have seen many problems with aftermarket pumps and it is too much work to change out again. Labor guide pays about 4.2 hours of labor to do the pump.
