Hi, I was hopping someone could help me with one of the dumbest things I've ever done. I was installing a new stereo and had the center dash pulled off and lost my wedding ring down the center heater vent. Is there any way to retrieve it or is it a lost cause. Where would it have fallen to? Ideally I would like to get it back without taking it to a mechanic. If anyone could offer any helpful advice I would be eternally grateful. Please help me.

Hello
Thanks for the donation.

If it is magentic you should be able to fish it out with an extendable magentic screwdriver (found at many stores such as Wal-Mart or Lowes). It can extend down into vent and catch the ring then pull it out slowly.

Otherwise, you may have to disassemble your dash to access the vent easier and then fish it out with some sort of tool, possibly metal clothes hanger or something to that effect.

If you need removal instructions for your dash, just let me know.

Hope this helps.

Disassembly would be the only other option I know of. If you need assistance with disassembling the dash just let me know.

Yes please could you give me the dash removal instructions. I've tried a magnet and a flexible claw without any luck. I think my entire street heard me getting yelled at today. Like I don't feel stupid enough. I think i'm on my own to get it back and i've never done anything like this before.

These instructions will disassemble the middle of your dash and gain better access to the center vents.

Disconnect the negative battery cable.
Remove the instrument cluster trim plate.
Unfasten the heater and A/C control panel attaching screws/bolts and pull the assembly out far enough to reach the connections.
Detach the blower switch electrical connector, vacuum harness connector and the temperature control cable.
Remove the heater and A/C control panel from the vehicle.

This will allow access from bottom of vent. Should be able to detach vent and try fishing it out.

Maybe better off having a mechanic do this though, as it may take more than just the a/c panel removal to gain access but this step is rather simple so if you can do this then it is worth the shot.
