My car would not turn over at all. We changed the starter and that was not the problem. The security light is on in the dash. So we change the switch in the ignition. It started and a couple days later it did the same thing. So we had a key made without a security chip and it starts the car. Is it a resister somewhere in the steering column? I am baffled

Well it sounds like somebody has bypassed the anti theft key with a resister, thats why it starts with the key with no chip in it. Look under dash, you will see a orange wire harness and there is probably a resisted wired into it, it must intermittently be no good. Let us know what you find.
