The car overheated on the freeway out of no where. When I had opened the hood there was coolant all over the driver side. Ever since then the car will overheat at the drop of a dime. Some suggested a bad freeze plug, but would that cause it to over heat at just idle? Any ideas?

Check cooling fan operation and thermostat maybe stuck shut. If fans work and top hose stays cool then replace thermo.

Assume no coolant leaking out of engine. If yes have coolant checked for presence of CO. This would tell if a headgasket has failed.
