1979 Chevy Camaro surgin at low RPM

We just swoped the auto to a 4 speed and now the car surges when at low rpm abowt(1500 to 2000)but when I bring the car up in rpm it stops (2500 and abuve) the surging stops y is it surging so bad I have driven other standerd cars and not notised this problem only when not enough throtol is provided

In 1979 auto transmissions operated off engine vacuum. When you put a standard trans. In you may have forgot to plug up a vacuum port off of the motor. Look for a vacuum leak around the carb.
